Acupuncture is a traditional technique using hair thin needles to reduce pain, improve blood flow and promote function.
What is Dry Needling?
Dry Needling is the use of hair thin needles to treat pain and impaired function caused by trigger points, fascia and other soft tissue or peripheral nerves. In comparison to acupuncture, focus is less on central nervous system involvement and most treatments last < 30 minutes.
How do these Treatments work?
Studies show acupuncture improves blood flow to the areas where needles are placed, releases pain reducing molecules in the body called endorphins and decreases sensitivity of portions of the brain related to pain. It also can reduce trigger point activation, normalize activity of muscles and restore muscle, nerve interactions.
