IOVERA

What is IOVERA?

IOVERA is an FDA approved device used to reduce joint pain by freezing pain nerves around the knees. It can also be used for selected cases of pain in the shoulder or hip joints and other peripheral nerves.

How is IOVERA performed?

IOVERA is a minimally invasive procedure performed in two steps. First the skin is cleaned and anesthetized. Second the IOVERA device is gently placed over the skin and a slender needle is advanced beside one of the nerves causing your joint pain. The tip of the needle then creates a ball of ice along the nerve making it unable to produce pain signals for up to 6 months.

Does it hurt?

Most people find IOVERA very comfortable and if at any time during the procedure you are having pain you can simply ask for more anesthetic to be injected to the area.

Can this help with knee pain from Arthritis?

IOVERA is a great treatment for arthritic knee pain when it is primarily over the inside of the knee.

Can this help with my scheduled knee replacement?

Yes, studies with IOVERA show that it will accelerate your recovery after a knee replacement and reduce your need for post-surgical pain medication.
