What is Prolotherapy?

Prolotherapy is the use of an irritant solution injected at an area of injury or pain in order to stabilize the region, reduce pain and promote healing.

 

What “solutions” are used in Prolotherapy?

We use sugar water (Dextrose) combined with anesthetic injected under direct ultrasound guidance.

 

What conditions can be treated with Prolotherapy?

We commonly treat osteoarthritis, joint instability, ligament partial tears, tendinosis, small partial tendon tears and other similar conditions with prolotherapy.

What are the risks of Prolotherapy?

Prolotherapy is a very low risk procedure and the primary risks are the same as putting any needle through the skin which include bleeding, infection and nerve injury.


How many injections are given each session?

Number of injections and total number of sessions required varies based on diagnosis and response. On average it takes 2-6 sessions spaced out by 1-2 weeks to maximize results.
